I received a text from Jean. Ed passed away this morning sometime around 3:00 a.m. She said “his pain is gone”.
Ed had been recently diagnosed at the VA Hospital with a very rare form of Stage 4 Cancer in his Bile Ducts (Gallbladder). Initially the doctors had given an estimate of 1-2 years, dropped this month to perhaps 6 months, all with proper medical treatment to extend to that date. Ed went on record to decline such treatment, saying he didn’t want to undertake expensive treatment just to prolong the pain another month of two.
Please keep the Larose family in your prayers as they say goodbye to a Husband, Father and Grandfather. Ed didn’t want a funeral service. I will keep you posted on how you may want to pay your respects.

William Talbot
TALBOTWilliam Austin Talbot, 82, of San Antonio, left this life on January 17, 2013 to be reunited with his wife of 57 years, Lillian Irene, and their son John Egan. A native Texan, he worked for Southwestern Bell in Corpus Christi, Harlingen, Brownsville and San Antonio. His 38 years of service with the telephone company was briefly interrupted while he served in the Army Signal Corps attached to the U.N. P.O.W. Command during the Korean War. 2013 Membership Renewals Now Due
2013 Membership renewals and new member applications are now being accepted. Please download and print a copy of application. If your call sign has renewed / changed, or if you are a first time member, please include a photo copy of your license attached to the application form.
Membership in SARO is $15 a year, per person, plus $10 application fee for the first time you join. If you’ve been gone awhile, for whatever reason, you don’t have to pay that $10 application fee to renew your membership.

We need you to include a copy of this application form for all renewals, don’t just mail a check or your renewal may get delayed until we match it up with an application form. Application forms are always available at our quarterly meetings.
New Ham Store Opens in San Antonio
At the end of 2012, without any trumpets blaring or other fanfare, Gary WF5Y, aka Grumpy, opened his new store location at 2002 CeeGee Lane, San Antonio, TX 78217. He’s currently offering a line of Ham Radio pieces and parts, plus some Baofeng HT radios, antennas, wiring and coax, the various kits and electronic parts available thru his website, www.grumpyshop.net, etc. He has a small selection of used equipment on consignment, and takes the attitude of “if you don’t see what you want, ask me about it.”
He’s worked some deals with Craig Kennedy (former owner of KComm The Ham Store) and other dealers, to increase his ability to supply current radios upon demand. Grumpy said he does not plan to stock a large number of new radios in inventory, as the profit margin just isn’t there now a days. He said it was almost impossible to compete on the basis of price alone, with today’s Internet market place.
April Meeting Location – Grumpy Shop Ham Store
At the January meeting of the SARO Ham club, members voted to hold their April 26th meeting at the new ham store in town, Grumpy Shop, located at 2002 Cee Gee, San Antonio, Texas 78217.
The meeting will start at the usual time, 7:30pm, but since there won’t be any food offered, other than perhaps some “chips” (electronic only), you might wish to eat before you get there. There are multiple fast food restaurants on Broadway on either side of Loop 410.
